Nony and husband and business partner Sam, work as independent agents,
but sit under the Martin and Co umbrella. They have been in mainstream
high street estate agency for decades, and have personally have been
selling property in the area for almost 23 years (ironically before most
of the main companies in Winchester opened!).
best service to their clients - both buyers and sellers alike. They say "We are

"Our clients know that we are
always available to them - their home is our passion, and offering best
service is something we pride ourselves in. Sam and I personally
undertake the valuation on each property, attend all the photography
sessions to ensure the house looks as good as possible for the
photographs, and accompany each and every viewing at the house. We
then negotiate the offers, and agree the sale, and manage the sale all
the way from offer to Exchange and Completion. We have found that our
clients have relished being the centre of our attention, and of being
one of a very few being marketed at any time. We work around our buyers
and sellers, rather than them trying to work around us. All too many
agents cannot fit in a viewing on a property for several days. We
deliberately don't work that way, people's time is precious at the
moment, and we respect that".

"An epic performance that will have you on the edge of your seats" ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - We Are Winchester

Last Thursday evening We Are Winchester were invited to The Tower to see The Discarded Nut Theatre Company perform one of Shakespeare’s most powerful plays.

Having never seen (or even read for that matter) the tale of Hamlet, we were excited to see how this tragedy unfolded. In this modern setting, the performance tackled politics, violence and mental health issues, as Hamlet descends into madness after the loss of his father.

It has to be said that the quality of the acting in this tragic play was second to none. The watchmen, played by Mike Dorey, Felix Price and Ollie Bruce brought great energy to the play and the beautiful and heartbroken Ophelia, played by Frankie Barton- Cooper, was enchanting as she too falls into madness.

It was a real treat to watch Mary Askham play the role of Hamlet’s mother, Gertrude, and also Amanda Stebbing as Lady Polonius. So eloquently and with such conviction did the cast of Hamlet play that keeping up with the Shakespearean language was not difficult. From the sword fights to the blood, it had you gripped from start to finish.

The role of Hamlet was played by Ed Morris (who had the leading role in The Discarded Nut’s Frankenstein last year) and he was nothing short of mesmerising, laugh-out-loud funny and utterly terrifying all in one. His performance was certainly something to see and his take on Hamlet truly brought the play to life.

The rest of the cast was equally wonderful, with special mentions to Will Pickering who played the role of both Lucianus and the gravedigger - making the audience laugh with his witty gestures and funny intonation, and the role of Laertes, played by Matthew Honey - who also really stood out in Frankenstein last year.

Noel Jones (Director) and Harriet Morris (Music Director) are the dynamic duo behind this epic performance, and their passion and commitment never ceases to amaze. Particular mention has to go to Harriet, as we loved the soundtrack which really set the scene.

“Though this be madness, yet there is method in’t”

If you’re yet to see a Discarded Nut production then make sure you look out for their next one. And, if you have budding young dramatics at home then make sure you sign them up for The Discarded Nut Theatre Company.

"I always love my book events at our River Cottage Canteens in Axminster, Bristol, Plymouth and Winchester. They are a fantastic chance for us to get the recipes off the page and onto the plate for our guests to enjoy. The A to Z is extra special, as it represents a decade of inspiration from my key River Cottage collaborators. I’m looking forward to feasting on delicious seasonal recipes from the book; but most of all to meeting our River Cottage regulars, and indeed any curious newcomers who’d like to come and see what we’re up to. So please join me at one of these events. It’ll be a real pleasure to see you there, and feed you well."

Young Prince Hamlet's world is turned upside down following the death of his father. Alienated from a mother he adores when she inexplicably marries his father's younger brother, the newly crowned and murderously ambitious King Claudius, Hamlet struggles to find his place in the new world order. The sight of his father's Ghost imploring him to defend his decaying legacy and avenge his execution, leads Hamlet down an even darker route; an uncontrollable slide into madness.

Set in a time that reflects where we are today, The Discarded Nut Theatre Company's production of Shakespeare's greatest tragedy is a visceral exploration of the devastating effects that the decisions of those in power can have on those beneath them, that the actions of a parent can have on their child and the realisation that the head and heart are not separate. What affects one, affects the other.

The guide aims to raise awareness among promoters, venue managers and
festival organisers of gender-based violence and harassment at music
events and to highlight that it is everybody’s issue by encouraging both
men and women to step up when needed.

      We
are really excited that BoomTown is one of the first festivals to
invite us to run an awareness raising event for their festival-goers.
Festivals who work with the White Ribbon Campaign are sending a clear
message that they take women’s safety seriously and would never keep
silent or shy away from tackling it. We hope other festivals will follow
BoomTown's lead.”

    4th
August 2016 - Berkeley Homes has announced the recent acquisition of a
prime five-acre plot of land in the heart of Winchester city centre.

    Previously
home to the Hampshire Constabulary Headquarters on West Hill, the
development has been granted planning permission to create 208 high
quality
new homes on the site. Boasting a prime location and benefitting from
an elevated position just a five-minute walk from the centre, many of
the new homes will enjoy stunning views across the city.

    Set
to become one of the largest ever new build schemes to be created in
Winchester city centre, the new development will feature a mixture of
both apartments
and substantial family homes. Works are now underway to clear the site
in order for the building works to commence.

    Michael
Lane, Police and Crime Commissioner, said: "Modernising our police
estate to deliver the best working environment to deliver operational
effectiveness
and look after our people is a key priority. This sale follows on from
the move to co-locate with the Fire and Rescue Service in our now joint
Strategic Headquarters. This sale of the former Headquarters will
deliver funds that can continue this modernising
and improving estates programme by reinvesting the money raised."

    Chris
Gilbert, Managing Director, Berkeley Homes (Southern), said: “We are
delighted to have acquired such a prominent site in the historic city of
Winchester.
The benefits for the community will be two-fold as Berkeley deliver
much-needed quality housing to the area while the proceeds of the sale
will be reinvested back into the police force"

The Mary Rose revealed to the world once more on the very day of its sinking, 471
years ago
After a six-month closure and a multi-million pound investment, the Mary
Rose Trust today unveiled to the world the Mary Rose, Henry VIII’s
favourite warship, 471 years to the day after it was sunk. The ceremony
held at the ship’s home, Portsmouth Historic
Dockyard, included a spectacular kabuki drop, revealing the ship after
having undergone 23 years of extensive treatment, including
state-of-the-art innovations, which has changed the face of
conservation.

Revealed for the first time ever was a carved wooden Tudor rose, which
was discovered at the time of the second excavation in 2005 but only
recently identified as the original emblem of the ship, and the first
figurehead of its kind, as depicted in 16th-century drawings
in the Anthony Scroll.

Both girls and boys are required, OVER 16′s only.

Girls will need a reasonable level of ballet.

Boys ballet would be useful but by no means essential.

In addition to a chorus of young people, we are also looking for some older adults to take part in the pantomime’s crowd scenes.

A great chance to be an integral part of this year’s panto company
and gain valuable experience working with professional actors and
creatives.

At the audition you will be required to show a good level of dance
and musical theatre skills and we may also ask you sing, although there
is no need to prepare anything in advance.

It is important that you let us know your level of training and
experience on your application form in order that we can get an idea of
your ability.

The chosen performers will need to be available for some
weekday evenings and Sunday rehearsals during November as well alternate
performances of the pantomime from 6 December 2016 to 2 January 2017.

But devices were sometimes used as ‘digital nannies’ or ‘digital dummies’ by those eager to keep children endlessly entertained.

screen use contributed to health problems such as obesity - and also left children exposed to the dangers of cyber bullying.

identity. Often they have not developed sufficient coping skills to
manage their emotions, especially when engaging with social media,” she

“And the peer pressure and bullying they receive on
social media can be very frightening, relentless and on a global
scale. Any mistakes a teenager makes online, or any exposure to their
private actions, might be recorded permanently and
shared globally, to devastating effect.

“We also need to remember that teenagers are
constantly on their digital devices posting items as a way of seeking
“likes” and approval. They use social media as their main source of
affirmation, and often form disastrous conclusions about
themselves, or their futures, as a result of criticism or any type of
humiliation.”

“Many young people engaged in what we call cyber
bullying do not even realise the impact they are having. Young people
who post criticisms only see a computer screen, not their target’s body
language or facial expressions. Young people
are also very impulsive when they post. For the victim, social media
can have a devastating impact, especially if they already have low
self-esteem or symptoms of depression or anxiety. Allowing vulnerable
teenagers exposure to negative social media, or unmonitored
social media use, is something many doctors are concerned about.”

“It should be as commonplace as warning your child
about the dangers of cross the road. Set the boundaries of what is
acceptable and not acceptable and ensure young people know that intimate
personal detail is private. Young people are
often far more receptive to this information than teenagers.

“Often car journeys can be a good time to discuss
something with your child as you have their undivided attention (if they
put their phones down). I would talk through stories of young people
who have received a very difficult time over
social media and not known how to cope with it.”

    1. Think before you post.

    2. Do not encourage or “like” peers’ posts that could be considered unkind by others

    4. Remember if there is a post that distresses
you, it might be misconstrued by you. The person posting it might be
being driven by a desire to be popular, rather than someone who habours
negative beliefs about you.

On 20th July 2016 the Mary Rose embarks on its next exciting chapter.
Be one of the first to see the hull of Henry VIII’s favourite ship like
you’ve never seen it before.

Visitors will see stunning panoramic views of the ship from all nine
galleries through floor to ceiling glazing on the lower and main deck.
On the upper deck, you will breathe the same air as Henry VIII’s warship
for the first time in 23 years, with only a balcony between you and the
hull.

The only 16th century warship on display in the world, the Mary Rose
has been undergoing continuous conservation since she was raised in
1982. The hull was first sprayed with a mist of fresh chilled water and
then with a water soluble wax from 1994. In April 2013 the Mary Rose
entered a stage of controlled air-drying and a brand new museum that
wowed the world was opened later that year.

The hull has now reached a stable state with this drying process,
making the ship hall the largest environmentally controlled display case
in the world.

If you’ve seen the Mary Rose before, be prepared to be amazed. If you have never visited, now is the time to do so!

Helen Bonser-Wilton, Chief Executive of the Mary Rose Trust said "We
are delighted that our project works are almost complete and that
visitors will be able to see stunning views of the ship from all nine
galleries from 20th July. This is the culmination of decades of hard
work by the Mary Rose Team and we can’t wait to share the new museum
with everyone."

The major focus of gait analysis is to measure the degree of
pronation. Pronation is the natural inward roll of the foot as the outside part
of the heel strikes the ground. This roll acts as a shock absorber for the leg
and body, optimally distributing the force of the impact of the heel hitting
the ground.

Runners (and walkers) can basically be put into 2 categories
–

      Overpronator

     or

      Neutral

      Overpronation

     is
when the feet roll inward too much

      Neutral

     is when
the foot keeps straight

There is a third category - Underpronation (or supination)
this is where the feet don’t roll inward enough. However this is very unusual .

Gait analysis matches the runner’s degree of pronation with
the correct shoe type, with the aims of counter-balancing the degree of
overpronation, helping reduce the risk of injury and improving running
efficiency.

      WHAT IS VIDEO GAIT
ANALYSIS?

It involves running for a few minutes on a treadmill while a
video is made of the runner’s feet. This footage is then slowed down and
analysed in detail by an expert who will explain the findings. Runners can then
try a variety of shoes selecting cushioning, structured cushioning or maximum
support options according to the results.

As well as helping runners to find the right shoe through
assessing the moment of the foot, video gait analysis also looks at the leg and
body’s movement and efficiency to see if the analysis can help the runner
further. By slowing the video down and viewing the different running stages in
detail, we can help identify certain movements which may be triggering injuries
or affecting running efficiency.

10 Reasons You Should Love Blogging

Blog posts are a great way to get recognized within your community and share your voice. Here are the top 10 reasons you should love writing blog posts.

    Anyone can make one:

For better or worse, anyone can write a blog post about anything they want. Everyone has a voice and the best voices will rise to the top.

The writer can show their personality:

In blog posts, the writer has more leeway to add in their voice and personality than other types of writing.

Blogs are a great form of mass communication:

You can help people, learn new things, entertain your audience—the possibilities are endless and amazing. Blogging opens up all of these to a very wide audience.

You can make money:

Get the right blog going and you can make a lot of money through advertising and sponsored posts.

It allows people to craft better thoughts:

Instead of reading haphazard, uneducated Facebook statuses, it’s much better to see people’s thought process in a well-written blog post.

    You can establish a community:

Blogging allows you to connect with other individuals who share the same interests. Sharing ideas and opinions within your community helps establish yourself as a thought leader.

    Good for SEO:

Keeping content on your site fresh and relevant, you can use your blog to boost the search engine ranking (SEO) of your site and your business.

It brings people back to your site:

If your blog is strong enough and updated regularly, people will come back looking for more and bring traffic back to your site as well.

    It’s free:

It costs you a grand total of zero dollars to post to the blog, so if you have something to say, there’s nothing to stop you.

You can establish yourself as a thought leader:

A blog is a great place for your original thoughts, and it can be a wonderful way to show off your individuality. If people like your ideas, you can become a thought leader in your industry!

What else do you love about blogs? Let me know!
